Worst Games of the Decade: 2011

If you thought 2010 was bad, it didn’t stop in 2011. You would think with costs of game development going up that developers would be more careful about what they make. Most people only see what the AAA or controversial titles are because that’s what’s in the forefront of the media. These little guys are in the background pooping on the game industry and no one’s cleaning it up. Then you have the 30,000, 100,000, or even 1 million people who will eat those turds. Sounds gross? Try sitting down for 5 minutes to play any of these rotten eggs. The list is long, but I wanted to get 99% of them. People HAVE to know about these games. To either avoid them or just to use it as a conversation starter with friends.

Breakout with a soccer theme. There you go, your life is now complete, so the devs thought. This game is just so bland and boring, and…stupid. What were they thinking?! Plus the graphics are terrible and look like a bad flash game. One of the worst games on WiiWare

This game actually had a lot of potential. The game looked good and the setting was interesting, of course it got completely screwed up right? This game seemed to be released in beta, the combat was dull and boring, the characters sucked, the game was glitchy and had framerate issues. Everything that a game should do right went wrong here.

Nordcurrent released another dump on Wii. Anything with 101-in-1 should tell you the game is bound to be bad. This game suffered from the same problems other cash-in Wii games suffered from. Poor controls, terrible graphics, some mini-games that don’t work at all, and they were boring! None of them were even a teeny bit good.

Remaking arcade game is always fine because the new generation can experience these classics. When you butcher the games, though, that’s a different manner. Good job for screwing up ports guys.

Remember Ridge Racer for PSP? One of the best racing game for a handheld hands down. Asphalt 3D? A complete pile of garbage. The game was pretty much unplayable thanks to the awful frame rate. It was Quake 4 on Xbox 360 bad. It doesn’t help that Asphalt is already a boring and bland racing game, yet the 3DS launch buyers were suckers for it.

This is the problem with the franchise, stop gearing it toward kids! They don’t care and aren’t your long time hardcore fans! That’s why the Cybertron series did so well and was considered the best Transformers game ever made. It was geared toward adults and long time fans. Being the final Harry Potter game based on the movie you’d expect it to be somewhat good. PS3: 120,000

X360: 100,000

Another great idea gone to waste. Sluggish and broken combat, forgettable story and characters, a lot of bugs and crashes, and various other things that make an RPG NOT fun. Thankfully this is a small thorn in Atlus’ large hide.

A strategy game needs good combat and er…strategy. Stronghold 3 has neither. The game has shallow combat that’s boring, and the game crashes way too much. These things are what strategy games need and to break them is not good.

Release Date: 10/28/2011

Systems: PC

GameRankings: 43%

Publisher: Paradox Interactive

Developer: Kerberos Productions

Sales: <10,000

The problem with Lords of Winter was communication. The game didn’t put any information on the new features at all. You had to rely on the community to learn how to play the game. It doesn’t help that the game is full of more bugs than working things in the game. This was a disaster of a strategy game and most fans like to think it never existed.

Some TV shows just should not be games. NCIS is one of the them. There isn’t a single good thing about this game. It doesn’t get the show right, the story sucks, the puzzles are boring and some times broken, and you just have no reason to play this.

Otomedius isn’t really a bad game, it’s just not a good value. It has just a few levels and only has cute anime girls, that’s about it. It’s a full priced game for a fraction of the content. Value does mean something guys!

There’s something out there for everyone! Including kids who…want to know what it was like to…mow lawns in 1950…okay let’s just move on. I’ll just say that mowing an actual lawn is more fun than this game.

Sales: 80,000

The only thing you will learn from this game is how to defend your wallet from other Kinect games. Poor controls, useless excercises that don’t get you in shape, and aerobics for the geriatric. Take the $60 and spend it on a real trainer where you will learn more.

Does it ever stop? Was there a single good Kinect game? Bad controls, bad voice work, boring mini-games, it just never ends!!!!!!!

Systems: PS3

GameRankings: 42%

Publisher: Mastiff

Another bad Move game, at least the controls were really good. The problem here is that it’s a generic modern military shooter and tries to hard to be Call of Duty. It ultimately fails in being entertaining or interesting.

Release Date: 11/18/2011

Systems: X360

GameRankings: 48%

Publisher: Crave

Developer: Papaya Studios

Sales: 50,000

The problem here is that the combat was really shallow and the multiplayer mode left players out for a long time. You can’t expect much from a game about Cartoon Network. It had a lot of potential, but was sorely let down.

Release Date: 11/21/2011

Systems: PC

GameRankings: 41%

Publisher: Meridian4

Developer: Silent Dreams

Sales: <10,000

This game series had a lot of potential. Being a satirical game on dungeon crawling what would go wrong? Everything. The combat was shallow and dull, the game had a ton of bugs (most PC games do now-a-days it seems) and it didn’t deliver on the humor part, plus the game’s localization wasn’t complete.

Release Date: 11/25/2011

Systems: PC

GameRankings: 48%

Publisher: NEG

Developer: Intoxicate

Sales: <10,000

Afterfall, like most horror games, didn’t really scare and used the same things through the whole game. It also had clunky combat, bland visuals, terrible voice acting, and boring gameplay. I actually tried this game out and didn’t like it one bit, later I tried the released “fixed” version and it wasn’t much better.

GameRankings: 21%

This game had a huge stink with fans. They think the developers made this game to purposefully kill the series. It was way too hard, the physics were terrible, and it was just uninspired. The series wasn’t that great to begin with, but this didn’t help.

Postal-3_PCDLboxart_160hPostal III

Systems: PC

GameRankings: 30%

Publisher: Akella

Developer: Running With Scissors

Sales: <10,000

I had the pleasure of playing this! It’s incomplete garbage! What were the developers thinking?! The game looks ancient, controls like crap, has bad dialog and terrible voice acting, and honestly, there’s not much game here. This is like an alpha for a game that shouldn’t exist. This is what a good game usually is and they scrap it and make A GOOD GAME! Why does this series exist? It’s one of the worst I have ever played.

What did we learn today kids? That you don’t play games based off kids TV shows, or grown-ups. Postal is a series that should die, Kinect games are 99% bad, and the Nintendo consoles got shafted for bad ports. Also that Transformers should stop tailoring to kids.
