The Game: $5 for this great of quality is a steal, game engine actually works, no need for weird conversions or song requirements, online multiplayer rocks
The Bad: Pretty bland underneath the surface, not for people who don’t listen to music very often
$5 for this game kind of made me suspicious. This is probably the best deal I’ve ever seen for this price. Beats is a rhythm game where you decide the soundtrack. Use any music you want! That’s right, no need for converting MP3s to a weird format, no need to only use songs with certain sounds or this and that. Just put your favorite songs on your memory stick and tap away at the buttons with 100% perfect precision. The engine gets the beats right on and makes you giddy when you first start playing it.
A great visualizer that plays in the background helps and you can choose from dozens of them. You play the game but either hitting left or right and tapping the buttons accordingly. What really helps are the different difficulties to make things challenging. Guitar Hero and Rock Band need to take a page from Beats because if this $5 game can let you use your own songs I’m sure $100 Guitar Hero and $170 Rock Band can. The online multiplayer doesn’t hurt either.
