The Good: New graphical style is interesting, great new CD quality music and style, new game elements are interesting, easier than other Sonic games
The Bad: But not interesting enough, no story anywhere in sight, somewhat bland
The biggest thing you’ll notice about Sonic CD is the new style it has to it. The levels have an almost trippy psychedelic feel to them and they are much bigger than other Sonic games. Sonic CD also uses the Sega CD well by giving us CD quality music and some slight 3D elements that you see in Sonic Rush (DS). The music in SCD is wonderful and while not as happy-go-lucky as other Sonic games, it feels a lot more mature and evolved. All your favorite theme songs have been rewritten and fit the style well. Story wise SCD fails miserably because there isn’t a story…there’s something about hitting past and future signs in the levels and sometimes if you hit a secret area you’ll go either in the future or the past I don’t really know what’s going on there. To me, Sonic CD doesn’t feel as good as Sonic 2 but the new style and approach may be for you but it wasn’t for me.
