The Good: Lots of guns, power-ups, free maps, custom soundtracks, free
The Bad: Looks simple, static backgrounds, it gets old after awhile
I love dual stick shooters and especially ones that involve lots of guns and gore. BloodnGuns is a fine stick shooter that offers plenty of maps (via free DLC) and lots of fun modes. Like any dual stick shooter you control movement and aiming, but BloodnGuns controls are tight and easy to learn. You can find plenty of power-ups that let you reload faster, bigger clips, additions to score, faster shooting, wave instant kills etc. All these power-ups are vital to staying alive and it offers a great strategy.
There are a lot of modes such as Rush, Survival, Shotgun and TNT, and a couple of modes that only throw certain enemies at you. All these modes are a blast and the difficulty ramps up kind of slowly so this isn’t a play for one or two minutes type stick shooter. You can go on for 30 minutes plus and really rack up your score. The enemies types are varied from various aliens that rush you, skeletons with swords, and mages that throw fire at you. The backgrounds are pretty much just images on which the gore stays on top of. I would like to have had some 3D objects in the background, but the game is free so you can’t complain. There are plenty of guns (most of them real world) ranging from M4s to pulse guns.
With that said BloodnGuns is a ton of fun for a free game. With lots of downloadable backgrounds, power-ups, guns, and lots and lots of gore. Being able to listen to your own iTunes songs is a sweet bonus as well. The game could have been prettier, but what we have will do.
