Endless running games are a huge hit right now thanks to games like Temple Run. Gravity Project tries to twist things around a bit and succeeds, but only really falters in production values and a few minor issues. The game is broken down into levels instead of an endless, which I really think the game needs.
As you run through the level you can swipe up and down to slide and jump. Swipe left and right to run on either wall which is the major change here. This adds a huge layer of depth to the game that also makes it more challenging. Obstacles litter these tunnels and you need to be quick to reach the end. You are also racing against a clock that is counting down, so you need to get the clock icons that add 2 seconds for every one. This is also based on your end level score for how many you got. There are lasers that actually reduce your time, but won’t kill you. The game also has objects move as you flip to the walls like boxes so you need to watch out because not everything is stationary.
The controls are responsive but I find the animations a bit lacking and don’t give a satisfying visual feedback, so they don’t seem as responsive as the controls. There are also a few power type items that I find completely useless that allow you to run through anything, speed up, and a few other things but they only last like 3 seconds and are useless. The visuals are decent with backgrounds changing often, but there doesn’t seem to be any music which is pretty disappointing.
Overall, Gravity Project is challenging and changes up the endless running type games that everyone has played at this point. The game is also free which is a huge plus and has decent visuals. Useless power-ups and a lack of music brings the game down a tad, as well as poor animations. For a free game I can’t really complain though, but hopefully an actual endless mode will be added some time soon.
