While graphics and audio may enhance your experience to an extent, there’s something we all interact with in Skyrim that we overlook: The UI. The main Skyrim menu, perk menu, and inventory menu are probably looked at more than anything else, and we can’t deny that the vanilla Skyrim inventory menu was a step up from Oblivion, but far from what it could have been. Bethesda took a minimalist approach to the UI, but that wasn’t exactly effective. There are many mod authors out there who have completely changed the way we interact with Skyrim and some I can’t play the game without, and I mean ever.
A Quality World Map with Roads
This is probably one of the most overlooked thing in Skyrim, the map. Sure, it looks decent with some nice clouds and 3D terrain, but it could be better. IcePenguin gave us a cleaner more high-res map with optional roads and HD textures. I can’t use the map without this mod and as a side note this was one of the first majorly popular Skyrim mods being released just a month after the game launched. It was much needed and the credit is well deserved.
Better Dialogue Controls
Another thing we don’t think about is how we talk to NPCs. The setup was a step up over Oblivion and even Fallout 3 as the camera didn’t zoom in on their face, but kept the camera where it was. It made the conversations more cinematic and natural looking, but on PC this was a bit of an issue. Most Skyrim users play with a keyboard and mouse and the menu would either select the option that you mouse is closest to, or do something completely weird. This mod fixes that. I always say that the simplest things are what matter most in Skyrim.
Want to spice up your loading screens? Why not some 3D erotica? Don’t worry, this isn’t porn being pumped into your Skyrim, but softcore 3D fantasy woman from various popular 3D erotica artists like Balassa, Metalhed13, Zzomp, and various others. This mod isn’t for everyone so please don’t go flaming the mod author screaming it isn’t lore friendly because it clearly isn’t. The pictures selected are quite beautiful and add a bit of naughtiness to your Skyrim.
This is by far the most popular Skyrim mod ever created and the most essential. This is on my #1 spot of must have Skyrim mods. This mod doesn’t just change the game for players but other modders as well. With the absorption of MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) a powerful tool is now available to modders to let players change settings in game without the use of complicated ini edits. The SkyUI team also works closely with the SKSE team to make sure this is the highest quality mod you can get for your UI.
Without this mod we may never have had an easy way to put tattoos on our characters. I know a lot of people scoff at the idea of tattoos not being lore friendly, but in fact, they are. This plugin allows us to put on tattoos on different parts of the body easily while using the RaceMenu camera controls to see them. If it weren’t for this mod my character may look pretty in the face, but generic on the body and that’s how it was for the longest time. Kudos to this mod author for hours of endless scripting and coding.
This mod may be easily overlooked but it shouldn’t. This allows mod authors to have their own special menu outside of the vanilla one, this may seem familiar to players who modded Oblivion. Without this mod it would a serious pain for mod authors to script special menus for their items. This allows mods that can open up other .esp or .esm files and allow you to browse them in game and take what you want for just one example.
